Punjab Police busts arms and drug smuggling network arrests five
Amritsar:- Punjab Police has busted an arms and drug smuggling network linked to Pakistan, arresting five persons and seizing six pistols and over 1 kg heroin.
According to the police, the officers of Amritsar Commissionerate acted on intelligence inputs.
They recovered six modern pistols (five .30 bore and one Glock 9mm) along with 1 kg 10 grams heroin. Initial investigation suggests that the arrested accused were in touch with Pakistan-based handlers through social media and drones, who were coordinating the smuggling and delivery of illegal arms and drugs in Punjab.
“Acting on intelligence inputs, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a Pakistan-linked arms and drugs network and arrested five persons and recovered 1 kg 10 grams of heroin along with six modern pistols (five .30 bore and one Glock 9mm),” the DGP Punjab Police shared in a post on X.
FIRs have been registered under the Arms Act and NDPS Act at Cheharta and Cantonment police stations. Police said that investigations are on to identify other handlers and bust the entire network and stressed that they are committed to stopping cross-border smuggling and ensuring public safety.
The post said that preliminary investigation suggests that the arrested accused are in touch with Pakistan-based handlers through social media and drones and coordinate the movement and delivery of illicit arms and drugs in Punjab.
