Bhawanigarh:- A sleeper bus going from Chandigarh to Bathinda narrowly escaped a major accident on Thursday afternoon. A private orbit bus plying on the highway before village Channo suddenly caught fire. At the time of the incident, about 40 people were travelling in the bus, whose lives were saved by the bus driver's ingenuity.
As the fire incident was detected in time, all the passengers were safely evacuated. Although the fire brigade reached the spot and managed to control the fire in the bus with difficulty, by then the bus was completely burnt.
According to the information, the driver of the said bus felt smoke coming out from the rear of the bus running near village Channo and smelled something burning. The fire started spreading rapidly and soon the fire engulfed the engine and AC cabin at the rear of the bus.
Upon learning about this, the bus driver and other crew members present in the bus stopped the bus in a safe, open area near a dhaba located on the highway and immediately asked the passengers to get off the bus. With the help of other people on the spot, the belongings of the passengers lying in the cabin of the bus were also removed.
