Princess Amrit Kaurs humanitarian work was remembered
Patiala: On February 6th, on the occasion of Princess Amrit Kaur's martyrdom day, Mrs. Sarla Bhatnagar, Principal of Veer Haqiqat Rai Model Senior Secondary School, Patiala, addressed the students and teachers, highlighting her humanitarian and nation-building contributions in detail.
Principal Mrs. Sarla Bhatnagar said that Princess Amrit Kaur, India's first Health Minister, dedicated her entire life to the service of humanity. She dedicated invaluable assets to the nation, including one of the country's largest medical institutions, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala, a guest house for doctors and nurses in Shimla, and the palace of Raja Sir Harnam Singh of Kapurthala. Due to these great deeds, Princess Amrit Kaur's name will forever be etched in golden letters.
She informed that Princess Amrit Kaur was born on February 2, 1887, to Raja Sir Harnam Singh of Kapurthala. She received her higher education from Oxford University in England. Instead of living a simple and comfortable life with an Englishman, she chose to return to India and work for the health, sports, and social upliftment of her countrymen. She played a crucial role in the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and laid the foundation of the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala with the aim of making Indian youth world-class athletes.
On this occasion, Mr. Kaka Ram Verma, a retired training officer of the Red Cross, said that Princess Amrit Kaur donated crores of rupees from her share of wealth to promote medical and sports activities during her lifetime. She was also the first chairperson of the Indian Red Cross Society. She ensured the proper and public-spirited use of the properties donated to the Red Cross. The Princess Amrit Kaur Memorial Life Saver Gold Medal is awarded by the Red Cross Society to students, youth, and citizens who perform the courageous act of saving valuable lives.
Mr. Kaka Ram Verma said that every person in life should constantly strive for the protection, welfare, progress, prosperity, and preservation of human life. He expressed his gratitude to the officials of educational institutions, the National Service Scheme, the National Cadet Corps, the Scout Guides, and the Red Cross for awakening and fostering human values ??in the hearts, minds, emotions, and thoughts of the students.
