Permanent solution to the yearsold waterlogging problem at Shimla Pahari Chowk
Hoshiarpur- Taking a significant step toward providing relief to the people of Hoshiarpur from the problem of waterlogging during the rainy season, MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa today inaugurated the new Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) built for the drainage of rainwater at Shimla Pahari Chowk. On this occasion, he stated that this storm sewer project will prove to be a permanent solution to the long-standing problem of waterlogging during rains and will provide great relief to the residents of the surrounding area.
MLA Jimpa mentioned that this ambitious project has been completed at a cost of approximately 1 crore 58 lakh rupees by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board. He said that every year during the rains, a large quantity of water used to accumulate at Shimla Pahari Chowk, due to which common people, shopkeepers, and passersby had to face a lot of trouble. Many times, traffic was also affected due to waterlogging, and people faced difficulties in their daily chores.
He said that keeping in mind the long-standing demand of the area residents, this project was approved on a priority basis, and now, after the completion of the work, people will get direct benefits from it. MLA Jimpa informed that under the project, a special pipeline has been laid from the Shimla Pahari area to Bhangi Choe, through which rainwater will be discharged directly into Bhangi Choe. This will prevent water from accumulating at the chowk and surrounding areas, and traffic will remain smooth during rainy days.
He stated that the Punjab government is continuously working to expand civic amenities and strengthen urban infrastructure. As part of this, various development projects are being completed rapidly so that better facilities can be made available to the people. He expressed confidence that this new system will prove its utility in the upcoming monsoon season and will eliminate the problem of waterlogging in the area to a great extent.
During the inauguration ceremony, local residents also expressed happiness over the commencement of this project and thanked MLA Jimpa. On this occasion, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Ajay Verma, Sudarshan Dhir, Santosh Saini, Ajay Saini, Manjeet Singh, Vikas Saini, Subhash Chandra, Pradeep Saini, and Kulwinder Singh Hundal, along with a large number of dignitaries and area residents, were present.
