People block road over lack of drainage
Ambala, February 10:- Angry people today blocked the road in protest against the poor drainage system in the small vegetable market of Ambala city. Frustrated by the accumulation of dirty water in the market complex and surrounding roads for a long time, traders, street vendors and local residents got angry and blocked the main road leading to the market, disrupting traffic. Locals say that the drainage problem in the small vegetable market is not new.
Water from light rain or nearby areas accumulates in the market complex, causing mud, foul smell and mosquito infestation. Vegetable vendors face a lot of difficulties in reaching customers while the common people are forced to wade through dirty water. Despite repeated complaints to the Municipal Corporation, no permanent solution has been found.
The situation worsened today when water accumulated in the market came onto the road, making it difficult for two-wheelers and four-wheelers to pass. The angry people raised strong slogans against the administration.
As a result of the traffic jam, long queues of vehicles were formed on both sides, due to which pedestrians had to face a lot of difficulty. During this, a youth also got into an argument with the protesters and the commotion continued for a long time.
On receiving information, police and municipal corporation officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the crowd. The protesters clearly said that their protest will continue till concrete arrangements are made for water drainage. They also said that dirty water has increased the risk of diseases.
