Pensioner Day was celebrated with great pomp and show
Hoshiarpur:- Punjab Pensioner Welfare Association District Hoshiarpur celebrated the annual Pensioner Day with great pomp and show like every year at Bharat Palace Hoshiarpur. Which was presided over by the General Secretary of the Confederation and District President Kulwaran Singh. This event was dedicated to the beloved late Shri Mahendra Singh Pariwana Ji of the Pensioner Organization.
The chief guest of this event was Shri Kundan Kumar, Regional Manager, SBI, Sutaihari Road Hoshiarpur, as the chief guest and the great trade union leader Master Harkanwal Singh, Shri Jawand Singh District President Gurdaspur, Shri Satish Rana Coordinator Punjab Employees Pensioner Joint Front attended the event as special guests. At the beginning of the event, a two-minute silence was observed and tribute was paid to the pensioner comrades who passed away during the current year.
Releasing the proceedings of the event to the press, District Press Secretary and State Additional General Secretary, Balbir Singh Saini said that while starting the event, Senior Vice President Suraj Prakash Anand, acting as the Stage Secretary, shed light in detail on the struggles and organizational activities undertaken by the organization in the past. District President Kulwaran Singh welcomed the chief guest, special guest and the participating pensioner friends.
Later, the organizational annual report was presented by Mr. Manjit Singh Saini and the financial report by Mr. Sudesh Chandra Sharma. Both the above reports were unanimously passed by the assembled pensioner friends. During the event, various speakers, expressing their views, strongly condemned the harmful policies of the Aam Aadmi Party's Mann government towards employees/pensioners.
The speakers demanded that pensions of Punjab be revised by a coefficient of 2.59 as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, the letter dated 28-11-2025 should be withdrawn and the notional fixation method should be implemented on the central pattern, the rate of dearness allowance should be increased from 42% to 58% like that of central government employees and pensioners, the arrears from 1.1.2016 to 30.6.2021 should be released in lump sum, the time for payment of medical bills should be increased and a cashless scheme should be implemented.
If both husband and wife are pensioners, then a travel card should be given to both of them, medical allowance should be increased to Rs. 2000/- per month, the old pension system should be restored to the employees recruited regularly from January 04, GP Fund should be introduced instead of CPF. The demands of reinstatement, new recruitment and regularization of raw employees etc. were strongly condemned and strong protest was expressed against the Mann government of Punjab. The speakers accused the Mann government that even during the struggles held from time to time, the government has been running away from the talks by giving time for meetings.
The leaders, speaking against the performance of all the governments, alleged that due to the difference between the words and deeds of all the political leaders, the politicians are no longer trustworthy, therefore they stressed on the pensioners to be ready for further struggles. On this occasion, the House unanimously passed a resolution that keeping in mind the higher age of pensioners, the 6th Pay Commission should be implemented in full and 16% DA installments and DA arrears should be released immediately and in one lump sum.
On this occasion, 5 resolutions were presented by the District President which were unanimously passed by the present pensioner colleagues.
1. The Punjab Government has not given the pension revision of 2.59 times the pension recommended by the 6th Pay Commission to the pensioners and now the notional fixation method has also been canceled through a letter dated 28-11-25. This action is condemned by the present pensioners and it is demanded from the Punjab Government that the recommended pension revision methods should be given to the pensioners after reconsidering.
2. To achieve the demands of the pensioners, the Punjab Government Pensioners Joint Front will participate in the struggles planned.
3. To achieve the common demands with the employees, the Punjab Employees Pensioners Joint Front will also participate in the struggles led by the District Organization.
4. As per the demand of the public organizations, the Electricity Amendment Bill, Seed Amendment Bill-2025, privatization and four labor codes should be canceled.
5. The pensioner demands should be meaningfully resolved and the old Pension Scheme 1972 should be reactivated.
Pensioners above 80 years of age were honored.
At this time, the pensioner guests who had crossed 80 years of age were honored with dushalas and mementos. The journalists who arrived on the occasion were also honored. The pensioners and donors who came to attend the event donated abundant financial support to the organization, for which the District President thanked them.
The chief guest of today's event, Mr. Kundan Kumar, Regional Manager, SBI, Sutaihari Road Hoshiarpur, while addressing the event, assured to solve the problems of the pensioners on priority basis.
On this occasion, the top leaders of the employees, Master Harkamal Singh, Jawand Singh President Gurdaspur, Manjit Singh Saini District General Secretary and Vice President All India State Government Pensioners Federation, Malkit Singh President Mahilpur, Saroop Chand President Tehsil Garhshankar, Ram Dita President Mukerian, Ajit Singh Goraya President Tanda, Shamsher Singh Dhami President Tehsil Hoshiarpur, Satish Rana State President PSSF and Convener Sanjha Morcha, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Dhillo, Gian Singh Gupta Talwara, Dalvir Singh Bhullar Dasuha, Kulwant Singh Saini State Leader Municipal Employees Union, Balvir Singh Saini District Press Secretary, State Additional General Secretary and State President “The Working Reports Association Punjab, India”, and leaders of fraternal organizations addressed.
At the end of the event, the General Secretary of the Confederation and District President Kulwaran Singh, while sharing his views, highlighted the activities of the past year and strongly condemned the current Punjab government for not accepting the demands under the policy of delay and called on the pensioner comrades to be ready for fierce struggles. He thanked the pensioner comrades who participated in the event in large numbers and with the hope of meeting again in the event in December 2026, the event ended with a hearty meal.
