PAUKVK Sangrur Launches Khet Bachao Abhiyan to Improve Soil Health
Sangrur, 03 June- Under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and the Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sangrur of Punjab Agricultural University has launched the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’.
Giving details about the campaign, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Incharge, PAU -Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, said that during this month-long nationwide campaign, experts from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra will visit villages to educate farmers about soil-test-based balanced fertilizer management, saving urea and phosphorus fertilizers, benefits of using bio-fertilizers and green manure, new techniques for sustainable agriculture, organic farming, and reducing farming costs.
He further informed that under this campaign, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur organized a village-level awareness camp in Village Saron, Block Sangrur.
During the camp, Dr. Rukinderpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), discussed ways to improve soil health with farmers, laying special emphasis on incorporating crop residue into the soil, and using farmyard manure, green manure, and organic fertilizers. He encouraged farmers to use urea, DAP, and other fertilizers in their fields only as per the soil test report.
He also said that if wheat sown previously received the recommended dose of DAP fertilizer, then there is no need to apply phosphorus fertilizer to paddy and basmati in the kharif season. In addition, he explained integrated weed management in paddy in detail.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery), shared information with farmers on the method of preparing mat-type nursery and transplanting techniques for mechanical transplanting of paddy. At the end of the camp, questions from farmers related to paddy cultivation were answered.
