Panchkula will soon get drinking water supply from Kaushalya Dam
Chandigarh, October 23 - Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini while directing the officials said that to ensure drinking water supply from Kaushalya Dam to Panchkula city, the repair work of the damaged water pipeline should be started soon. He said that this work should be completed on priority basis so that drinking water supply from the dam can be restored in various sectors of Panchkula instead of tubewells as before.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister while directing the officials of Haryana Urban Development Authority said that the authority should make 10.12 acres of land available to the Public Health Engineering Department under clean water storage in Pinjore-Kalka area so that with this arrangement, clean drinking water supply from Kaushalya Dam can also be started soon in Pinjore-Kalka areas.
**Shri Naib Singh Saini was chairing a meeting related to comprehensive dam safety here today.
The Chief Minister said that all the concerned departments of the state government should depend on surface water instead of ground water for drinking water supply and concrete steps should be taken towards collecting rainwater scientifically and utilizing it.
**Directions given to increase the capacity of motors of Kajoli Water Works
He also directed that the selective water supply from Kajoli Water Works should be strengthened and the capacity of water supplying motors should be increased so that sufficient water can be available from Kajoli Water Works.
**Initiatives taken towards increasing the storage capacity of Kaushalya Dam
The Chief Minister directed the Irrigation Department to prepare an action plan towards increasing the water storage capacity of Kaushalya Dam. He also said that the department should take effective steps in coordination with other concerned departments to ensure that the dirty water does not reach the dam under any circumstances.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the status of Kaushalya Dam in Panchkula, Otu Head in Sirsa and Hatnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar and directed the plant panel of experts to assess the dams so that the strength and safety of these dams can be ensured.
The meeting was attended by Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Rajesh Khullar, Chief Administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority Dr. Chandrashekhar Khare, OSD to the Chief Minister Mr. Rakesh Sandhu, Chief Engineer of Irrigation and Water Resources Department Mr. Satbir Singh Kadian, Mr. Rakesh Chauhan and other senior officials.
