Over 335 crore Indians suffer from asthma Dr SK Gupta

Hoshiarpur:- Park Hospital announced the launch of Advanced Asthma and Allergy Clinic. With the launch of this Advanced Asthma Clinic, patients from Panchkula, Mohali, Chandigarh, Zirakpur, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Ropar, Nawanshahr, Patiala, Karnal, Kaithal, Solan and Shimla will get the benefit of specialized asthma care. Director and HOD - Pulmonology said that asthma remains a serious public health problem in India, affecting over 34.35 million people, which is about 13 percent of the global asthma burden.
Senior Consultant - Allergy and Asthma Dr SU Lavasa said that the asthma-related mortality rate in India is three times higher than the global average, which reflects the shortcomings in early diagnosis and treatment. Consultant-Pulmonology, Dr Hitesh Gaur said that asthma is a chronic disease that affects both children and adults, and is often triggered by dust, pollution, smoke, infections and stress. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, cough, wheezing and chest tightness.
Dr SK Gupta added that asthma is a lifelong condition for many patients, but it can be effectively controlled with proper medical care and awareness. He stressed that inadequate diagnosis and inadequate treatment are the major challenges in India, leading to unnecessary complications and increased number of hospitalizations.
The Advanced Asthma and Allergy Clinic will provide services like respiratory allergy panel testing, fungal allergy testing, lung function testing (spirometry), and advanced treatment options including immunotherapy and biologics.
