Officials should start preparations for flood relief management now Uttam Singh

Karnal, December 31: Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh held an important review meeting with officials of the Irrigation and Revenue Departments in the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat on Wednesday. During the meeting, he instructed the officials to start preparations for flood relief management immediately. No negligence in the arrangements will be tolerated. Earlier, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also held the 57th meeting of the Haryana State Drought Relief and Flood Control Board through video conferencing and issued necessary instructions to all Deputy Commissioners.
The Deputy Commissioner said that there should be no compromise on the quality of development works. The studs or walls constructed on the rivers should be strong and up to standard. Feedback should also be taken from the local public after the completion of the work.
He instructed that an action plan should be prepared in advance for the potentially flood-affected areas. A sufficient quantity of sandbags should be kept ready in such areas. The cleaning of all canals and drains in the district should be completed before the onset of the monsoon. The work should be visible on the ground.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials to immediately prepare an inventory of all pump sets in the district. The pumps that are in poor condition should be repaired in time so that there are no technical problems during waterlogging. The works that are more important and sensitive should be completed on a priority basis.
He instructed the officials to expedite the ongoing projects and start work immediately on those that have not yet begun. The next meeting to review the progress of flood relief works will be held in June, in which the work of all departments will be thoroughly audited.
