No helmet no mercy those who overspeed will be in trouble

Karnal, February 27:- A meeting of the Road Safety Committee was held today in the District Secretariat auditorium under the chairmanship of Assandh SDM Rahul Raiya. 17 pending cases from the previous meeting and 6 new agendas for today's meeting were discussed and necessary instructions were given. It was informed in the meeting that in January 2026, 31,576 challans were issued, resulting in fines of Rs 89,70,600.
The meeting was informed that last month, 6671 challans were issued for over speeding, 10,517 for not wearing a helmet, 111 for driving under the influence, 1236 for not wearing a number plate, 925 for changing lanes, 284 for driving in the wrong direction, 1009 for wrong parking, 1151 for violating red lights, 2471 for not having third-party insurance, 5023 for crossing the zebra crossing, 1042 for not wearing a pollution certificate, and 27 for not wearing a seat belt. This month, a total fine of ?89,70,600 was imposed on those violating traffic rules. Furthermore, in January 2026, the RTA issued 289 challans related to overloading, driving without a permit, pollution, etc., and imposed fines of ?11,482,800.
IDTR Karnal registered 1,307 people for training, of which 1,285 completed the training. The RTA office issued 58 licenses for heavy vehicles, while 303 were renewed. Regarding illegal cuts made in front of various dhabas on the National Highway, the concerned official stated that the illegal cuts have been closed and FIRs have been filed.
SDM Rahul Raiya directed the repair of faded white stripes on the roads and directed the concerned officials to permanently address the potholes at Vishwakarma Chowk in the city. Regarding compensation for hit-and-run victims under the Motor Accident Scheme 2022, it was reported that 83 out of 98 cases have been approved, and seven have been returned to the Claims Investigation Officer. Compensation has been disbursed by the GIC in 48 cases.
SDM Rahul Raiya directed a separate meeting with GIC officials to expedite compensation payments for pending cases. It was also reported that 106 buses were inspected in the district under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, of which five were challaned. At the meeting, the IRAD representative reported that 46 accidents occurred in the district in January 2026, including 18 fatal accidents. These accidents resulted in 20 deaths and 54 injuries.
In contrast, 71 accidents occurred in 2025, resulting in 36 deaths. In response, the SDM directed that high-risk accident sites in the district be identified. He instructed the engineering wing to check road markings, zebra crossings, signboards, and road rules, whenever they visit the field, and ensure that they are installed as needed.
He also urged that potholes on the road surrounding the flyover being constructed in Karnal city be immediately filled and illegal encroachments removed to avoid inconvenience to residents. He also directed officials from the Haryana Urban Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation to assign junior engineers from their respective departments to perform inspection duties.
SDM Pradeep Kumar, Nilokheri SDM Ashok Kumar, Gharaunda SDM Rajesh Soni, RTA Vijay Deswal, RSA and social worker members Sandeep Lathar, Vipin Sharma, Raman Middha, besides officers of police and other related departments, non-government members of the committee were present in the meeting.
