No Effort Will Be Spared to Make Hoshiarpur Dengue Free Ashika Jain
Hoshiarpur: The district administration has launched large-scale preparations to prevent seasonal diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. In line with this, a crucial district-level meeting was organized today at the District Administrative Complex, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain. Heads of various departments attended the meeting. During the session, the Deputy Commissioner formed a core committee for the Dengue Action Plan to monitor awareness and prevention activities across the district. She emphasized that the district administration will spare no effort to make Hoshiarpur dengue-free.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stated that prior to the monsoon season, all departments must work with complete seriousness and accountability to curb the spread of dengue and chikungunya cases in the district. She directed all department heads to ensure that water does not stagnate anywhere within their offices, complexes, or surrounding areas, noting that even slight negligence could lead to the outbreak of the disease.
Directing the Civil Surgeon of Hoshiarpur, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the formation of special teams at the block level, including representatives from the health department, police department, municipal councils, and non-governmental organizations. These teams will conduct door-to-door inspections at least two days a week, raising public awareness while identifying and taking necessary action in high-risk areas. She also instructed the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Councils to deal with the matter urgently.
She informed that Red Cross Society volunteers are also playing a significant role in this campaign by surveying homes and commercial establishments. The primary objective of the campaign is to sensitize people against severe diseases like dengue and chikungunya and halt their transmission. During the survey, teams are inspecting coolers, flower pots, discarded tires, water containers, and other vessels to ensure stagnant water is drained. Citizens are being educated to empty, clean, and dry water containers at least once a week to prevent the breeding of the Aedes mosquito larvae.
The Deputy Commissioner pointed out that the Aedes mosquito breeds in clean stagnant water and is the primary carrier of dengue and chikungunya. Therefore, public cooperation is vital to prevent these diseases. She added that larvicide sprays would be deployed in high-risk areas to control mosquito breeding.
Ashika Jain appealed to the residents of the district to maintain cleanliness in and around their houses and adhere to the guidelines issued by the health department to make the district free from dengue and chikungunya. Present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikas Kumar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jyoti Bala Mattu, SDM Hoshiarpur Parampreet Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal, and other administrative officials.
