Municipal Council Elections Presidential Chair Remains Lame Hung in Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr, May 29: The people of Nawanshahr, who have not yet recovered from the agony faced after the previous Municipal Council elections, are already fearing a repeat of the last five years of "hellish life" as no party has secured a clear majority. Last time, Congress emerged as a strong force with 12 councilors, but due to internal shifts, the presidency remained unstable.
This time, Congress has won 8 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strengthened its position by winning 6 seats. To secure the presidency, a majority of 11 votes (including the local MLA's vote) is required. The balance of power now lies with the 2 Akali, 2 Independent, and 1 BSP councilors, who will decide whether the mayoral crown goes to Congress, AAP, or if the citizens will have to endure another period of political stalemate. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which campaigned with great enthusiasm, saw its morale collapse as all 15 of its candidates lost their security deposits.
Election results were made public by Returning Officer Madam Anamjot Kaur and her team by 11:00 AM. Ward-wise winners: Ward 1: Balwinder Kumar (AAP), Ward 2: Jaskaran Singh (AAP), Ward 3: Param Singh Khalsa (Congress - 4th consecutive win), Ward 4: Bibi Mahinder Kaur Khalsa (Akali Dal), Ward 5: Shiv Ram Kainth (AAP), Ward 6: Sumit Parihar (Congress), Ward 7: Bibi Kulwant Kaur Saini (Congress - continuous winner), Ward 8: Ritu Badwal (Congress), Ward 9: Master Davinder Kumar (AAP), Ward 10: Nishu Chopra (Congress), Ward 11: Varinder Chopra (Congress), Ward 12: Inderpreet Kaur Pathak (AAP), Ward 13: Paramjit Singh Bakshi (Congress), Ward 14: Sangeeta Gill (AAP), Ward 15: Raman Kumar Mann (Congress), Ward 16: Suman Lal (Independent), Ward 17: Mamta Devi (Congress), Ward 18: Pushpa Devi (BSP), Ward 19: Jasveer Kaur Badwal (Congress).
Only time will tell who will wear the mayoral crown or if the city will face another period of suffering. Following the results, Angad Singh Saini (Congress), MLA Nachhatar Pal (BSP), Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Thiara & Manjit Kaur Thiara (Akali Dal), and Lalit Mohan Pathak (AAP) were seen celebrating with their respective supporters amidst drumbeats and distribution of sweets.
