Municipal Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma became strict in maintaining a strong sanitation system

Karnal, October 14: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma, attended by representatives from the Haryana Urban Development Authority, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (Market Committee), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). The Municipal Commissioner issued strict guidelines to the concerned officials to further strengthen the city's sanitation system. Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar and the sanitation team were present at the meeting.
He directed the Haryana Urban Development Authority officials to ensure that vacant plots in their jurisdiction remain garbage-free. No large plots should be littered. Special monitoring should be maintained on cleaning operations. He said that care should be taken to ensure that garbage hot spots do not arise. Cleanliness target units should be identified and eliminated promptly.
He ordered the Market Committee officials to improve the sanitation system as soon as possible. He said that care should be taken to ensure that garbage is not scattered throughout the grain market and vegetable market areas. All shopkeepers and vendors in the market should be strictly instructed to do so. He also said that wet and dry waste generated in the vegetable market should be separated. He said that the market falls into the category of bulk waste generator, so it should be given to the agency to separate the waste and ensure its disposal. He also directed that the market be free of stray animals.
He directed the NHAI officials to ensure that the GT Road within the municipal corporation limits is cleaned. Roadsides, flyovers, and underpasses should be kept clean. Weeds growing on roadsides should be uprooted. Furthermore, storm water lines should be cleaned. Cleaning operations should also be monitored.
He instructed the HSIDC officer that there should be no open garbage in Sector 3, Sector 3 Extension, and the industrial area. He clearly stated that they should focus on improving their sanitation system. The Municipal Commissioner also asked for a report on how industrial waste is being disposed of.
The Municipal Commissioner stated that under the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign 2025, the Municipal Corporation is conducting daily cleanliness drives and various awareness activities. During the campaign, visits to various locations and complaints from citizens revealed that the above departments are not showing the required interest in maintaining the city's cleanliness. In light of this, strict instructions have been issued to the concerned officials.
He stated that if these departments do not comply with the instructions issued by them, necessary action will be taken. He finally said that maintaining the cleanliness system of the city is a collective responsibility, for which the Municipal Corporation, concerned departments and citizens will have to work together.
