Mothers screams echoed as the innocent childs breath ceased on the road
Karnal, June 16: An eight-year-old boy died and his mother was critically injured in a tragic road accident on Monday evening on Sai Mandir Road, Sector-6. The incident occurred while the mother and son were returning home on a scooter after a swimming session at the Gymkhana Club. Their scooter lost its balance and fell onto the road after being hit by a tractor-trolley, and the innocent child was run over by the vehicle. The tractor driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
According to reports, Harneet was traveling on a scooter with his mother along Sai Mandir Road. A tractor-trolley passed by them, followed closely by a dumper truck. Eyewitnesses stated that the side of the tractor struck the scooter, causing it to lose balance and both of them to fall onto the road. Harneet died on the spot, while his mother sustained serious injuries.
Bystanders gathered at the scene following the incident, but the tractor driver took advantage of the crowd to abandon the vehicle and flee. Upon receiving the information, the police from the Sector 32-33 station arrived and arranged for the injured woman to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the child's body was taken into custody and sent to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Locals state that construction work has been ongoing on Sai Mandir Road for a long time. With one side of the road closed, traffic from both directions is forced to use a single lane, creating a constant risk of traffic jams and accidents. Residents alleged that adequate safety measures were not implemented during the construction work, leading to this tragedy.
Jagdish, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 32-33, stated that the deceased child has been identified as Harneet. He was visiting his maternal grandparents' home with his mother. The police have seized the tractor-trolley and the damaged scooter and initiated an investigation. Action will be taken against the accused driver after a case is registered based on the complaint filed by the family members.
