Mohali Police arrest absconding accused in Punjab National Bank robbery case
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 6 February:- Under the directions of Mr. Harmandeep Singh Hans, Senior Superintendent of Police, S.A.S. Nagar, during the ongoing campaign by the district police against anti-social elements, a team of the P.O. Staff, led by Station House Officer Balwinder Singh, under the supervision of Mr. Saurav Jindal, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) and Mr. Bhupinder Singh, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Command Center), successfully arrested absconding accused Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, son of Jaspal Singh Khurmi, resident of village Mehtpur, district Jalandhar (presently residing in Chandigarh).
While briefing the press, the Senior Superintendent of Police informed that accused Sandeep Singh alias Sunny was arrested on 03.02.2026 in connection with FIR No. 89 dated 17.06.2020, registered under Sections 392, 379-B, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act, at Police Station Mataur, Mohali. The accused had committed a robbery at gunpoint on 17.06.2020 at Punjab National Bank, SCO No. 6-7, Phase-3A, Mohali, and was later declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
Apart from this, the accused was also required by the court in FIR No. 82/2021 under Sections 411, 482, 170 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25 of the Arms Act, registered at Police Station Phase-1, Mohali, and in FIR No. 336/2021 under Sections 384, 120-B, registered at Police Station City Kharar.
The accused is involved in approximately 20 criminal cases registered across other districts of Punjab, the Union Territory of Chandigarh, and the state of Uttar Pradesh, including one murder case, two cases of assault, robbery, escaping from police custody, theft, and cases under the Arms Act.
He further informed that during this campaign, from 01.01.2026 till date, a total of 51 absconders have been apprehended by Mohali Police. The police campaign to trace and arrest absconders/proclaimed offenders required in various cases will continue in the future as well, and all criminals will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
