Mock drill on fire gas leak smoke debris and water rescue conducted

Patiala:- As per the guidelines of Punjab Health Minister **Dr. Balvir Singh**, Deputy Commissioner and Civil Surgeon Patiala, during the ongoing Disaster Management, Civil Defense, First Aid and Fire Safety Training Camp at **Mata Kushallya Hospital Nursing School**, special training was given to the students to deal with various emergency situations.
Under the guidance of Principal **Shri Surinder Pal Kaur**, practical and theoretical training is being given to the first year students on various subjects by **Shri Kaka Ram Verma**, Retired Training Supervisor, Red Cross and Government of India Disaster Management Trainer.
On this occasion, **Shri Kaka Ram Verma** and **Shri Jatinder Pal Singh**, former ADFO, Punjab Fire and Emergency Services, explained through various demonstrations how to safely carry out rescue operations during fires caused by extreme heat, humidity and rising temperatures, gas leaks, electrical short circuits and fires caused by petroleum products.
They also explained the methods of safely rescuing people drowning in water, people trapped in smoke or debris. Along with this, practical training was also given on **CPR**, artificial respiration (ventilation) and methods of saving the life of an unconscious or breathing person through first aid. The students were also given information about the correct use of bandages, planks and ropes.
**10 different teams** of students were formed to carry out relief work effectively during emergency situations and mock drills were conducted from them, so that they can perform their responsibilities immediately and properly in the event of a real disaster.
Principal **Shri Surinder Pal Kaur** thanked the trainers and said that in today's time, there is a continuous increase in incidents due to natural disasters and human negligence. Due to the use of gas, electricity, petroleum and other flammable substances in homes, hotels, dhabas, institutions, offices, vehicles and commercial establishments, it is very important for every person to take training in disaster management, civil defense, first aid and fire safety.
She said that disaster management teams should be formed in every institution and area and people should be kept ready to deal with emergency situations by conducting mock drills from time to time.
