Minister Shruti Chaudhary demands speeding up of Yamuna water projects
Chandigarh, November 27 - Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Smt. Shruti Chaudhary said that it is very important to speed up the progress of all inter-state water projects related to the Upper Yamuna Review Committee. She has expressed concern over the slow pace of the 1994 Water Sharing Agreement, Yamuna Water Management and important projects like Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar. The timely completion of these projects will ensure the future water needs of Haryana and Delhi.
This was said by Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Smt. Shruti Chaudhary in the 9th meeting of the Upper Yamuna Review Committee held in Noida Sector-62 under the chairmanship of Union Water Resources Minister Shri CR Patil.
He said that the Kisau project is stalled due to a dispute between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh over the cost sharing of the power component. He has appealed to hold a joint meeting of all the concerned states at the earliest to resolve this issue so that the project can be taken forward. On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Mr. Swatantra Dev Singh, Uttarakhand Irrigation Minister Mr. Satpal I Maharaj, Rajasthan Irrigation Minister Mr. Suresh Singh Rawat and Delhi Irrigation Minister Mr. Parvesh Sahib Singh were also present.
During the meeting, Minister Shruti Chaudhary also suggested holding high-level monthly review meetings for regular monitoring of Renuka and Lakhwar projects. She said that the timely completion of these projects will help in meeting the future water needs of both Haryana and Delhi.
Minister Shruti Chaudhary hoped that the committee would consider these suggestions seriously and take necessary steps at the earliest. He said that accelerating Yamuna water projects will increase water availability in the state and benefit many important sectors from drinking water supply to irrigation.
