Hoshiarpur:- Mahakushti Dangal was organized with pomp and show at Gurdwara Baba Chauta Ji village Mahil Gehla with the support of all NRIs and local residents. Under the leadership of wrestler Rajinder Singh Canada, the main organizer of Mahakushti Dangal, and under the supervision of former chief wrestling coach Bharat P. R. Saundhi, renowned wrestlers from home and abroad showed their wrestling skills. During this, wrestler Karanvir Singh Mahil Canada defeated Justin Sidhu Phagwara in the 90+ kg weight category and won the Rustom-e-Punjab title.
While in the 90 kg weight category, Karanvir Phagwara defeated Harvinder Jalandhar and won the Sher-e-Punjab title. Similarly, Jaskaran Patiala won the title of Star Punjab by defeating Abhishek Rana Bhagta Bhai Ka. The winning wrestlers were presented with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 11,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively and were given a trophy as a token of respect. The chief organizer wrestler Karanvir Singh thanked all the NRIs and coaches for making this Mahakushti Dangal a success.
He said that the main purpose of organizing this Mahakushti Dangal is to encourage the youth towards the traditional sport of wrestling of Punjab. He said that many famous wrestlers have been born from the village Mahil Gehla. Mainly wrestlers Baldev Singh Mahil, Mohan Singh Pehalwan, Tar Pehalwan, Dhanna Pehalwan, Prakash Pehalwan and Narinder Singh Balli USA. Who have brought glory to the village, Punjab and the country at the national and international level.
Ravinder Singh Mahil Memorial Club of the village is playing an important role in promoting wrestling. Chief Wrestling Coach PR Saundhi said that wrestler Karanvir Singh Mahil, who won the Rustom-e-Punjab title in this Mahakushti Dangal, is the chief organizer of this Mahakushti Dangal, Rajinder Singh Mahil, the talented son of Canada and grandson of Comrade Mehnagah Singh. Who has also won the Pan American Gold Medal.
On this occasion, Sarabjit Singh USA, Kirpal Singh Raipur Dabba, Ret: Principal Surinder Singh Bisla, Coach Gurmeet Singh, Coach Amrik Singh, Coach Bira, Coach Gurpreet Kaur, Coach Jatin Shukla, Coach Balvir Saundhi, Coach Purushottam Balli, Coach Sunny Raipur Dabba, besides District Kapurthala Wrestling Association General Secretary Reet Preet Pal Singh etc. were present.
