Lok Sabha adjourned till 5 pm after opposition uproar
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 5 pm on Wednesday after strong opposition members raised objections on issues related to the unpublished "memoirs" of former Army Chief MM Naravane. As soon as the House resumed at 2 pm, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 5 pm amid uproar over BJP's Nishikant Dubey's targeting of the Gandhi family.
Earlier at 12 pm, opposition members started raising slogans against the government on the issue of the clash with China in 2020 due to which the Lok Sabha was adjourned for 2 hours.
Today, amidst the uproar, Speaker Om Birla allowed parliamentary papers to be placed on the table of the House and later Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal made a statement on the India-US trade agreement. Congress members hoisted banners and posters with pictures of former Army Chief and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was seen showing a book in the House.
Meanwhile, the Speaker appealed to the members to maintain the decorum of the House and condemned the opposition members for showing banners and posters. The Speaker adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm due to the opposition members not being quiet. Earlier, similar protests were seen during the Question Hour, due to which the proceedings had to be stopped till 12 pm.
It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday, eight opposition members were suspended for the entire budget session for misbehaviour, and since Monday, there has been a controversy in the House over the reference to Naravane's book.
