Locals Distressed by Tipper Menace Meet the DC

Nawanshahr: Today, panchayats and organizations from the Nawanshahr area met the Deputy Commissioner of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar to demand a curb on tipper trucks, which are causing accidents due to overloading and reckless, high-speed driving. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the DC, stating that the tipper owners' pursuit of profit and the drivers' uncontrolled driving are leading to horrific accidents on a daily basis.
Speaking to the media, Kirti Kisan Union District President Surinder Singh Bains, State Committee member Bhupinder Singh Varaich, Shahabpur Sarpanch Shalinder Singh, Kamlesh Rani (Sarpanch, Asmanpur), Raghuvir Singh (Former Sarpanch, Asmanpur), and Soita Sarpanch Jaswant Singh highlighted that students, youth, women, farmers, and laborers are falling victim to these accidents.
They recalled the death of Onkar Singh Asmanpur—President of Naujawan Bharat Sabha, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar—who was killed years ago after being hit by a tipper on the Rahon-Jadla road. They also mentioned the deaths of Sukhvinder Singh and Simarpreet Kaur, who were killed in collisions involving tippers. Additionally, many others have suffered serious injuries, with some left permanently disabled.
They stated that while the Deputy Commissioner issues prohibitory orders every few days, tipper drivers blatantly disregard them. Illegal mining continues unchecked, and accidents remain rampant. The police, who are responsible for enforcing these orders, lack the courage to take action against the tippers.
Others present on the occasion included Nambardar Amrik Singh Usmanpur, Master Ajaib Singh, Balbir Singh, Kasmir Singh, Major Singh, Paramjit Singh Sangha, Harminder Singh, Balwinder Singh, Ajaib Singh, Avtar Singh Tari, Rana Ramji Das Sanawa, and Mohinder Shahabpur.
