Lions Club Hoshiarpur Pearl Deliberates on Water Conservation Pledges to Save Every Drop
Hoshiarpur: A special meeting of the Lions Club Hoshiarpur Pearl was held under the chairmanship of President Lion Vijay Arora. Notable attendees included Past District Governor Shiv Kumar Sekhri, Past District Governor Harish Banga, and Leo District Chairperson Pal Singh Banga. The primary focus of the meeting was water conservation. Speakers expressed serious concern regarding the rapidly depleting groundwater levels, rising water demand, and the water crisis stemming from climate change; they urged every citizen to make water conservation an integral part of their daily lives. Measures such as rainwater harvesting, water reuse, plugging leaks, and prudent water usage are considered highly effective for conservation.
On this occasion, Chairman of Eye Donation and prominent social worker Sanjeev Arora outlined upcoming projects. He stated that, given the monsoon season, a tree plantation drive would be launched, alongside other initiatives such as distributing books to needy students, cleanliness drives, and plastic-free campaigns.
Speaking at the event, Shiv Kumar Sekhri emphasized that every drop of water is invaluable today. He warned that if concrete steps toward water conservation are not taken in time, future generations will face a severe water crisis. He advocated for the mandatory adoption of rainwater harvesting systems in every home, school, office, and industrial establishment. He also stressed the need to prevent water wastage by immediately repairing leaking taps and pipes and to cultivate the habit of saving water among children.
Harish Banga remarked that water conservation is not merely a matter for government schemes but a collective responsibility of every citizen. He suggested practical measures such as using buckets instead of hoses to wash vehicles, watering gardens during the morning or evening hours, reusing water from kitchen and household chores, and promptly turning off taps left running unnecessarily. Small efforts, when combined, can bring about significant change. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Lion Vijay Arora and Sanjeev Arora emphasized that engaging the youth in water conservation campaigns is the need of the hour. They stated that regular awareness drives, tree plantation events, water conservation rallies, and programs focused on rainwater harvesting should be organized through schools, colleges, social organizations, and clubs to foster a lasting culture of water conservation in society; Mr. Arora added that the Lions Club Hoshiarpur Pearl would continue to conduct public awareness campaigns regarding water conservation in the future.
They urged all members to adopt simple water-saving measures at their homes and workplaces and to inspire others to do the same. Finally, all the members present pledged to spread the message that "Water means a future" (*Jal hai toh kal hai*) to the masses and to transform water conservation into a people's movement. Region Chairperson Harjit Bhatia, Rajindra Singh, Avtar Singh, and others were present on the occasion.
