Legal Action to be Taken Against Burning of Wheat Stubble
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, May 5:- Under the directions of the Chief Agriculture Officer, SAS Nagar, Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa, and the leadership of Block Agriculture Officer, Dr. Subhkaran Singh Dhaliwal, an awareness camp regarding wheat stubble management was organized at village Mote Majra. During this camp, Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, explained that after making fodder (turi), the remaining wheat residue can be easily incorporated into the field using harrows, cultivators, or reversible plows. According to the instructions of the NGT and the administration, information regarding any farmer who sets fire to this residue is received via satellite. Consequently, a challan will be issued, fines imposed, a red entry made in the land records (Fard), and appropriate legal action will be initiated.
Dr. Sucha Singh Sidhu, Agriculture Extension Officer, informed that subsidized seeds are available with the department for sowing Dhaincha (green manure) in the fields vacated after the wheat harvest. Additionally, the department is to set up demonstration plots for groundnut; interested farmers should coordinate with the department. Gypsum is also available at a 50% subsidy. Madam Divya, Agriculture Sub-Inspector, informed that farmers who cultivate maize instead of paddy should register with the department to avail of an incentive of ?17,500 per hectare. Farmers opting for the Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) technique will be provided an amount of ?1,500 per acre.
