Lecture held on the occasion of International Mother Language Day at Khalsa College
Garhshankar:- A special lecture was held at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College Garhshankar, which is run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Amandeep Hira, celebrating International Mother Language Day. Storytellers Ajmer Sidhu and Dr. Kewal Ram participated as speakers in the lecture. At the beginning of the program, Prof. Lakhwinderjit Kaur formally welcomed the special speakers by giving them plants. Prof. Lakhwinderjit Kaur, while delivering the welcome address to the guests, said that mother language plays an important role in our lives.
When we speak any language, it has its place, but respecting mother language is the need of our time. Prof. Saurav Dadri first introduced Dr. Kewal Ram to the students by telling them about his life and his literary achievements. Dr. Kewal Ram, while talking about the development, emergence of mother tongue, challenges faced by it and their possible solutions, said that Punjab mother tongue is undoubtedly called the language of Punjab, but all the governments that have come, have discriminated against Punjabi language in their own way, which is a matter of concern.
Therefore, we all should take appropriate steps to promote Punjabi language and create awareness among students towards Punjabi language. Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur, Head of Punjabi Department, while talking about Punjabi language, said that mother tongue should be respected not only at the family level but also at every level of society. These efforts become a means of connecting the younger generation with Punjabi language.
She informed the students about the life and literary achievements of the special guest Ajmer Sidhu, the storyteller and shed light on his contribution to Punjabi literature. Storyteller Ajmer Sidhu, while addressing the students in his speech, did not talk about giving priority to Punjabi language but he strongly appealed to make other languages ??a part of their lives.
He said that we should not remove our mother tongue from our lives, but just as different countries have given priority to providing education in their mother tongue, similarly our governments should also make similar arrangements and give priority to mother tongue to instill love for their mother tongue among the students. Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur thanked the speakers who came. Prof. Saurav Dadri played the role of stage manager.
