KVK Organizes FarmerScientist Interface on Rice Dwarfing Disease and Seed Fair
Nawanshahr:- Under the guidance of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, organized a 'Farmer-Scientist Interface' on May 14, 2026, at village Julah Majra.
Following the Director of Extension Education’s policy to reach remote villages, the event focused on 'Rice Dwarfing Disease' and the balanced use of fertilizers, alongside a Seed Fair featuring PAU-recommended varieties. The program saw the participation of 72 farmers and farm women.
Experts emphasized the balanced use of fertilizers through integrated nutrient management while promoting organic and bio-fertilizers to maintain high yields. Dr. Amarjit Singh, Principal Plant Pathologist, shared information on the identification and spread of Rice Dwarfing Disease, stressing the control of its vector, the White-Backed Plant Hopper (WBPH), in both nurseries and transplanted fields to effectively curb the disease.
Dr. Tejbeer Singh, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), highlighted the care of dairy animals during the summer season. Dr. Amit Kaul, Extension Scientist (Agronomy), provided detailed information on integrated weed management in Kharif crops.
Dr. Jaswinder Kumar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), apprised farmers of improved cultivation techniques for Kharif crops and PAU-recommended paddy varieties like PR 121, PR 126, PR 128, PR 133, and others. The village Sarpanch, Mr. Davinder Singh, and four progressive farmers, who were honored as 'Champions of Greener Punjab,' were also present at the event.
