Krishi Vigyan Kendra organized a districtlevel awareness camp on stubble management
Hoshiarpur- Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana is continuously emphasizing that farmers should not burn stubble and adopt recommended techniques as a campaign to protect the environment from pollution. Under this series, to make farmers aware about stubble management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, the district-level extension agency of Punjab Agricultural University, organized a district-level awareness camp on stubble management at the KVK campus.
MLA Chabbewal Dr. Ishank Kumar attended this camp as the chief guest. On this occasion, Director ICAR Attari Ludhiana Dr. Parvinder Shiuran and Chief Agriculture Officer Hoshiarpur Dapinder Singh were also present.
During his presidential address, MLA Chabbewal Dr. Ishank Kumar reiterated the commitment of the Punjab government towards farmer welfare and informed about the government facilities in this regard. He said that the economy of Punjab is dependent on agriculture and the Punjab government is taking every necessary step for the betterment of agriculture.
He stressed that the farmers should adopt the latest recommendations of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on agriculture, especially the conservation techniques of natural resources. He appreciated the work of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and encouraged the farmers and farmer women of the area to take full advantage of its services and training programs.
Welcoming the guests and farmers who arrived at the camp, Dr. Maninder Singh Bounce, Associate Director (Training), PAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra, shared information about the extension activities of the center regarding farmer welfare. He said that like previous years, this time also, Krishi Vigyan Kendra is conducting awareness camps, training programs, exhibitions and other activities in villages, schools/colleges as a campaign on stubble management. Dr. Bounce said that for the best performance of stubble management machinery, it is necessary that these machines are used jointly and to the maximum extent.
Director ICAR Attari Ludhiana Dr. Parvinder Shiuran said that stubble management is the main need of the hour. He stressed that farmers should adopt different techniques according to their area and land to curb the trend of stubble management and burning. He motivated the farmers to contribute in the form of a campaign for the success of this noble cause of not burning stubble.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dapinder Singh appreciated the progressive farmers of Hoshiarpur who contributed a lot in the campaign against not burning stubble, due to whose efforts the cases of stubble burning have reduced from 29 to only 15 this year. He also shed light on departmental schemes, especially stubble management.
To increase the technical knowledge of the farmers, experts from various disciplines, farmers and farmer women met. Associate Professor (Animal Science) Dr. Parminder Singh shared information about the use of paddy straw in biogas plants, energy, fertilizer, mushroom production, cardboard industry and animal feed and seasonal management of animals. Associate Professor (Crop Science) Gurpartap Singh shared important points about wheat cultivation. Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) Dr. Ajaib Singh shared technical information about paddy straw management and informed about the aspects related to the best performance of paddy straw management machinery.
Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) Dr. Prabhjot Kaur provided information about comprehensive pest management of rabi crops. Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) Dr. Karamvir Singh Garcha told about nutritious home gardens and mushroom cultivation and Assistant Professor (Home Science) Dr. Sukhdeep Kaur made people aware about the importance of nutritious diet.
The camp was attended by progressive farmers of the area and they also shared their experiences regarding stubble management. The guests also honored these farmers for their important efforts in stubble management over the past years.
Wheat, cabbage, mustard seeds, biofertilizer for wheat, metal shavings for animals, animal chaat bricks and agricultural literature were also made available for the convenience of the farmers. Finally, Sarpanch of village Bahowal Hardeep Singh formally thanked the guests, experts and farmers and farmer women who had come to this camp.
