Kewal Singh Dhillon becomes new Punjab BJP president High Command gives nod

Chandigarh:- In a major organizational change in the Punjab BJP, the party high command has appointed former Barnala MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new state president of the Punjab BJP. According to a letter issued by Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Arun Singh, the appointment has been made with the consent of the party's national president Nitin Naveen and will come into effect with immediate effect.
Kewal Singh Dhillon, who is considered close to former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, was active in the party for a long time. This decision has been taken by the BJP high command as part of its strategy to bring a Sikh face forward in Punjab, as leaders like Tarun Chugh, Minister Srinivaslu and Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini had been advocating for a Sikh face to lead the state unit for a long time.
75-year-old Kewal Singh Dhillon, who left the Congress in June 2022 and joined the BJP, was the MLA from Barnala from 2007 to 2017. He is also known as a successful businessman. The party is now counting on his organizational experience to strengthen the party's cadre network ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
It is worth noting that the three-year term of the current president Sunil Jakhar is ending in July. After the new appointment, a new era is expected to begin in the Punjab BJP, where Dhillon will give a new direction to the party.
