Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigns
Bengaluru:- Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar was also present during this event. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation on Thursday. Addressing the press conference in Bengaluru, he said: "I had earlier said that whenever the high command tells me, I will resign. Yesterday, the high command gave the instructions, and today, I have resigned."
He said that he has submitted his resignation to the secretary of Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot. Governor Gehlot is currently out of Bengaluru due to family reasons. After this development, it is almost certain that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will become the next Chief Minister. An official announcement in this regard is expected to be made during the legislature party meeting to be held on Friday.
Siddaramaiah's resignation is being considered as per the "rotational CM" formula. Earlier, Siddaramaiah held a meeting with his cabinet ministers at his residence and apprised them of the decision. During the meeting, DK Shivakumar respectfully touched Siddaramaiah's feet, after which the two leaders hugged each other.
