June 8 Protest Called Off After Partial Resolution of ASHA Workers Issues
Garhshankar:- The ASHA Workers Union (CITU) has called off its proposed protest scheduled for June 8 after some of the workers' payment-related issues were addressed by the health authorities. The union had submitted a memorandum to the SMO Posi on June 1, 2026, highlighting concerns regarding delayed payments and the lack of clarity about the nature of work for which payments were being credited to their accounts. The memorandum was submitted in the presence of union president Joginder Kaur, Binderpal Kaur, Monika Rani, Balwinder Kaur, Satmeet Kaur, and several other ASHA workers.
The union had given the administration one week to resolve the issues. During this period, the incentive payments for March and April were released, and clarification was provided regarding payments related to CHO duties. However, issues concerning payments for cleared TB cases and the TB survey are still pending and remain unresolved.
According to the union, the fixed honorarium for April and May, along with the incentive for May, is yet to be credited. Accountant Ajay Kumar assured the workers that these pending payments would be deposited into their accounts by Monday or Tuesday. In view of this assurance, the union decided to withdraw the June 8 protest.
Union representatives, including Comrade Mahinder Kumar Badhwaon, Joginder Kaur, Surjit Kaur, Babli, Parmjit, Kaushalya, and Manjit Kaur, warned that if the remaining payment-related issues are not resolved promptly, the ASHA workers will launch a strong agitation to safeguard their rights and interests.
