JNU administration besieges student leaders Delhi Police sends notices
New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union has made serious allegations against the university administration of targeting and intimidating student representatives.
The controversy erupted when the Delhi Police issued notices for questioning to current and former office bearers who were protesting against the installation of surveillance system and facial recognition cameras in the Central Library.
Union president Aditi Mishra said that she and other leaders were summoned to the police station on Saturday based on an FIR filed by the administration. Student leaders say that this action is an attempt to suppress their voice and divert attention from legitimate demands.
The students’ union alleges that instead of addressing real issues like shortage of books, shortage of seats and cut in funds in the library, the administration is spending crores of rupees on surveillance gates and cameras.
According to the union, the gates were removed after protests in August, but were reinstalled taking advantage of the organisation's absence during the November 2025 elections. The JNUSU has termed the action as an invasion of students' privacy and demanded that all cases registered against student leaders be withdrawn immediately.
