Karnal, June 30: In the Nissing area of ??the district, a female pet Labrador confronted a venomous black cobra—disregarding her own safety—and saved her owner and his family from potential danger. During the struggle, which lasted about 25 seconds, the cobra bit the dog multiple times. Critically injured, Jimmy succumbed about eight minutes later. The entire incident was captured on the home's CCTV camera.
Around 6 PM on Sunday, Sumit Thakur was stepping out to walk his two pet Labradors, Jimmy and Max, when a black cobra was spotted entering through the gate. Upon seeing the snake, both dogs rushed towards it. Jimmy attacked first, while Max joined in to prevent the snake from advancing further.
During the confrontation, the cobra bit Jimmy multiple times on her muzzle and paws, yet she continued to fight instead of backing down. Eventually, the snake retreated to hide near a wall and was unable to enter the house.
Sumit Thakur immediately alerted a snake catcher and a veterinarian. The snake catcher captured the cobra and released it safely into the wild, but due to the rapid spread of the venom, Jimmy died before the doctor could arrive.
Sumit Thakur runs an IVF center in Kurukshetra. He mentioned that Jimmy and Max had been brought home about nine years ago. Both had become part of the family and guarded the house. The entire family, especially the three children, is in deep shock over Jimmy's death.
