Jeevo Mangalam Where broken wings find their flight again
Karnal, January 30: While Basant Panchami is celebrated as a festival of joy, colors, and kites, it is nothing short of a disaster for the voiceless birds that soar in the sky. The dangerous Chinese kite strings injure hundreds of birds every year, many of whom become permanently disabled, while others even lose their lives.
Jeevo Mangalam, the only bird sanctuary in Haryana, located in Karnal, is a blessing for these injured birds. Here, birds injured by kite strings are treated just like humans. After complete recovery, these birds are released back into the open sky. In the last two days, a large number of injured birds have been brought to Jeevo Mangalam on the occasion of Basant Panchami.
Most of these birds had their wings cut by kite strings, and they are being continuously treated at the institute. People are bringing injured birds found in streets, neighborhoods, and open fields to the sanctuary. The institute's caretaker, Sadhvi, said that several species of birds are gradually becoming extinct, which is also disturbing the environmental balance.
She said that especially on Basant Panchami, children fly kites in large numbers, and during this time, birds get entangled in the strings and are seriously injured. Sometimes they die or become unable to fly for the rest of their lives. Sadhvi said that the Jeevo Mangalam institute is dedicated to all such creatures that are unable to fly due to an accident. Here, injured birds are treated completely, and after recovery, they are released into the open environment.
She appealed to people not to use dangerous Chinese kite strings while flying kites and to keep this hobby limited. She said that we have no right to take the life of any voiceless creature for the sake of our happiness. If people exercise a little caution, hundreds of birds can be saved.
