Jaswant Singh Kauli honored by Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University

Patiala, August 17:- In the context of the terrible commemoration day of Partition-2026 and 80th Independence Day, the Center for Women's Studies of Punjabi University organized a special program on August 14, 2026 at Science Auditorium, Punjabi University Patiala under the patronage of Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala and under the leadership of Dr. Naina Sharma, Director, Center for Women's Studies. On this occasion, nine women and four men narrators were honored in the context of the role played by women during Partition and rehabilitation.
These narrators included women of that generation, who bore the pain and suffering of Partition on their own and their children, who saw their mothers struggling with the difficulties of that time and heard the memories of that period from them from the beginning. Bibi Kartar Kaur, Bibi Balbir Kaur, Bibi Baljinder Kaur, Bibi Harbans Kaur, Bibi Ram Kaur, Bibi Basant Kaur and Bibi Saroj Wala were present on this occasion. Apart from this, Sardar Varinder Singh, Sardar Jaswant Singh, Sardar Mitha Singh and Shri Shiv Kumar Chopra were also specially honored by the Center.
On this occasion, the documentary ‘Wand To Wajud Tak’ prepared by the Center in collaboration with the Department of Journalism, Punjabi University, Patiala was also screened.
Sardar Jaswant Singh Kauli was honored by the Center for Women’s Studies with a letter of appreciation for his contribution to the Center’s Minor Project ‘Women and Partition’ and Major Project ‘San Santali Da Batwara: Women’s Story in Their Own Words’ from its inception to its completion in the year 2012.
Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Field Investigator, Center for Women’s Studies shared information about the project and the results of the research with the audience. Dr. Rajesh Gill, Former Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a special lecture on the topic ‘Women and the Making of Independent India: Independence, Partition and Rehabilitation’. Dr. Sukhjit Kaur, Former Head, Biotechnology, SUSET, Tangori, Mohali attended the programme as the special guest. The stage role was played by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Centre for Women Studies.
