Jammu and Kashmir Snowfall in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar:- The severe cold wave began in Jammu and Kashmir with rain and snowfall in several areas. The region experiences 40 days of extreme cold, known as Chillai Kalan. This period began on December 21 and will end on January 31.
Snowfall is common in the region. During this period, the temperature often drops below zero, causing water bodies to freeze, including parts of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Along with Srinagar, another part of Jammu and Kashmir, Anantnag, received the first rains of the season. Residents and tourists enjoyed winter snowfall in Sonamarg in Ganderbal district.
During this, snow froze on vehicles, buildings and roads. Sonamarg in Kashmir Valley received the first snowfall of the season on Sunday, covering the area in a thick blanket of white.
