Jalandhar youth missing after Dunki boat capsizes in English Channel
Jalandhar- A youth from Jalandhar has gone missing while going from France to England via the Dunki route. According to information, the youth was on board a boat with about 80 other youths, which was going to England. The youth from Bhatnoor Luban village of Jalandhar is missing after the boat capsized in the English Channel on October 1.
The victim has been identified as Arvinder Singh. His family came to know about the tragic incident the next day on October 2, when a person who survived the boat gave them this information. The informant youth is a resident of Chohana village in Kapurthala district.
The younger brother of the missing youth, Ashwinder Singh, said that his elder brother Arvinder had gone to Portugal on May 18 on a work permit visa and was to stay there. His biometrics were taken on September 5. But it was learnt that he met some other youths there and they had decided to go to England via a donkey.
Ashwinder Singh said he had planned to reach the UK via a donkey route. Earlier, they had planned to travel on a truck, but the truck operator refused to take them.
He said, “They planned to take a boat.
When he told us about it, we strongly opposed it. Ashwinder said that the youth from Chohana had called to inform Arvinder’s family that there were around 80 youths in the boat, including five Punjabi youths.
Ashwinder Singh said that he has no further information about this. Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli said that he will coordinate to seek the help of the Punjab and Central governments to find Arvinder.
