International Yoga Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at SDWG Government College Beetan
Haroli/Una, June 21 (Rajveer Chopra): A yoga session and awareness program were organized today at S.D.W.G. Government College, Beetan, under the aegis of the Youth Red Cross (YRC) Club to mark International Yoga Day. The event commenced at 8:00 AM on the college campus, with enthusiastic participation from students, Youth Red Cross volunteers, faculty members, and non-teaching staff.
Addressing the students on this occasion, College Principal Dr. Samiksha Gupta stated that yoga is an invaluable heritage of Indian culture and that, amidst the stresses of modern life, making yoga an integral part of one's daily routine is essential for physical and mental well-being. She encouraged the students to practice yoga regularly and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, served as the resource person and provided practical training in yoga. He guided participants through *Surya Namaskar* (Sun Salutation), *Mahamudra*, and other significant *asanas* (postures) and *pranayama* (breathing exercises), explaining their health benefits in detail. He highlighted that regular yoga practice fosters physical vitality, mental concentration, and a positive mindset.
Dr. Buta Ram, In-charge of the Youth Red Cross Club, delivered the welcome address, noting that yoga is not merely an exercise but an art of living a healthy, disciplined, and balanced life. He urged students to incorporate yoga into their daily lives and to spread awareness about it within society. He also expressed his gratitude to the Principal, the resource person, faculty members, and students for their cooperation in successfully organizing the event.
At the conclusion of the program, all participants pledged to practice yoga regularly and to spread awareness about yoga in society.
