International arms smuggling and hawala network busted

Amritsar:- In a major operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an international arms smuggling and hawala network. The police today arrested four accused, including an Afghan national. During the operation, the police recovered a total of eight modern pistols and seven cartridges.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were linked to a foreign network involved in the supply of illegal arms. This network used to transport arms consignments to India through drop points located in border areas. These arms were then delivered to local criminals for use in other illegal activities and crimes.
According to the police, the gang also used to do financial transactions through hawala channels, which made the network even more complex and organised. The recovered arms were intended to supply criminal elements and disrupt law and order in the area.
FIRs have been registered in this case at two different police stations: Police Station Islamabad and Police Station Gate Hakima. The police are now investigating the back and forth links of this entire network to find out who else is involved and how deep its international connections are.
Officials said that further investigation is likely to lead to more arrests and recoveries. Punjab Police has made it clear that its zero tolerance policy against illegal arms, hawala networks and organised crime will continue in the state.
