IndiGo cancels around 220 flights at three metro airports

Mumbai: IndiGo on Wednesday cancelled around 220 flights at three major airports including Delhi and Mumbai, even as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Albers claimed that the airline's operations were back on track. According to sources, the embattled airline cancelled 137 flights at Delhi airport and 21 services at Mumbai airport. Sources said IndiGo cancelled 61 flights at Bengaluru airport, including 35 arrivals and 26 departures.
On Tuesday, Albers had claimed that the airline is back on its feet and its operations are stable, even as the government has cut IndiGo's winter flight schedule by 10 per cent, or around 220 flights, against its sanctioned capacity of around 2,200 flights per day.
IndiGo had cancelled 460 flights from six metro cities alone on Tuesday. Albers also said that lakhs of customers have already received their full refunds, though no specific number was given, but remained silent on the issue of compensation to those people.
According to the Civil Aviation Ministry's passenger charter, airlines are liable to compensate passengers for flight delays or cancellations in certain situations. Also, airlines have to provide this compensation to passengers on their own without requesting it.
IndiGo has cancelled thousands of flights across the country after failing to plan for stricter safety norms, causing huge inconvenience to passengers, increasing airfares on other domestic carriers and creating chaos at airports across India.
