IGP Ambala gave special instructions for road safety
Ambala, 5 February:- Today, 5th February, Inspector General of Police, Ambala Division, Pankaj Nain, IPS held an important review meeting with the officials and staff of Ambala District Traffic Police at the Divisional Office in Ambala Cantt. The objective of the meeting was to strengthen road safety, reduce road accidents and make the transport system more effective and efficient.
During the meeting, the functioning of CCTV cameras installed on national and state highways was reviewed. The Inspector General directed that all the cameras should be fully functional and cover the road effectively. Also, to increase public awareness of traffic rules, information boards should be put up at prominent places clearly indicating that the respective route is under CCTV surveillance so that people can follow the traffic rules voluntarily. Instructions were given to identify hot spots of accidents and coordinate with the concerned departments for their improvement and resolution. Apart from this, emphasis was placed on holding periodic joint meetings with the Transport Department (RTO) and ensuring effective enforcement of traffic rules through coordination between the two departments.
Instructions were given to make it mandatory for traffic staff to wear body-worn cameras while on duty, maintain transparency, ensure courtesy in dealing with the public and preserve evidence in case of any dispute.
In order to establish traffic discipline and effectively reduce road accidents, strict action was directed against drivers who run red lights through online challan system. Finally, the Inspector General of Police directed all officers to strictly enforce traffic rules and adopt a sensitive, vigilant and responsible approach, giving priority to public safety.
