IAS and HCS officers to inspect drain cleaning works
Chandigarh, June 25:- With an aim to ensure proper monsoon preparations and accountability at the ground level in Haryana, Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Rastogi has directed IAS and HCS officers across the state to conduct physical inspection of urban drains and check the quality of pre-monsoon de-silting works.
Chairing a comprehensive review meeting of the ongoing drain cleaning works in all 87 urban local bodies of 23 districts of the state here today, the Chief Secretary directed all Municipal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to get senior administrative officers to conduct on-site inspection of the drainage infrastructure in their respective areas within the next three days.
Under the special monitoring drive, each IAS and HCS officer has been assigned the responsibility of inspecting drains of at least five kilometers in length in their jurisdiction. The officers will have to upload the detailed report related to the inspection, photographs and local inspection on the online portal of the Urban Local Bodies Department, so that real time monitoring of the works, transparency and accountability can be ensured.
? The Chief Secretary clarified that monsoon preparations should not be limited to meetings in the office only. Senior officers will have to personally visit the spot and verify the quality of de-silting works, identify sensitive spots, find out the shortcomings and ensure immediate corrective action as required.
Mr. Anurag Rastogi said that the state government has a zero tolerance policy towards any negligence in pre-monsoon preparations. He directed the district administration to ensure inspection of each drain, remove all obstructions and complete pending works before the onset of monsoon, so that the risk of waterlogging and flood-like situations in urban areas can be minimized.
The Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of the ongoing massive cleaning drive of drains in all the urban local bodies of the state. He termed this drive as one of the massive preparedness initiatives related to the cities of the state and said that the state government has shown its readiness by starting the work of cleaning drains well before the monsoon.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department, Mr. Ashok Kumar Meena, Chief Executive Officer, Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority, Mr. K. Makrand Pandurang and other senior officers.
