High Court hints at interim order in MP Amritpal Singhs detention case
Chandigarh: A day after the Punjab government sought permission to arrest Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh after the expiry of his detention under the National Security Act and keep him in Dibrugarh jail, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday said it would "make some arrangements and pass an order", indicating that he will remain under detention there.
Hearing the state's plea against the Centre and other respondents, a bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu indicated that an interim order would be passed to facilitate the proceedings through virtual mode. The court remarked, "We will pass an interim order... make arrangements for all hearings — be it remand hearing or arguments on charges, or consultation with lawyers... any lawyer of his choice... it will be done on a virtual platform," and also said that the petition will be kept pending.
These observations have come to light during the open court hearing and are only indicative of the prima facie view of the bench. They cannot be taken as a conclusive expression of opinion in the matter. The Centre was represented in this case by Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain and advocate Dheeraj Jain.
