Haryanas industrial establishments to have 5minute yoga breaks daily
Chandigarh, August 17:- The Haryana government has launched a time-bound initiative to ensure five-minute 'Y-break' (yoga breaks at work) daily in every industrial establishment in the state. Under this, yoga camps and training sessions will be organized in every industrial unit and within a month, at least one employee for every 50 employees will be trained, who will conduct yoga sessions at the workplace. This information was given by Dr. Sumita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary, Ayush Department.
In industrial units running in shifts, at least one trained employee will be arranged for each group of 50 employees working in each shift. This will ensure the facility of yoga at the workplace for employees working in different shifts as well.
This program has been launched in line with the Budget announcement of Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini for the year 2026-27, in which a five-minute daily ‘Y-break’ was made for employees working in all industrial establishments of Haryana.
The AYUSH Department has written to the Industries and Commerce Department and directed them to circulate this advisory to all industrial establishments and industrial associations of Haryana and implement it in a time-bound manner as per the prescribed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Dr. Mishra said that the General Manager of District Industries Centre (GM-DIC) in each district will prepare a program of yoga camps and training sessions in coordination with the District Ayurveda Officer.
This coordinated effort will ensure that every industrial unit of the district gets the benefit of this program. Under the guidance of Yoga Sahayaks, one or two employees will be selected by each industrial unit and trained within a month. This will ensure that there is at least one trained yoga trainer for every 50 employees, who will conduct ‘Y-Break’ sessions at their workplace.
The advisory also urges employees of the Industries and Commerce Department to voluntarily adopt and practice a five-minute ‘Y-Break’ during work hours. The initiative aims to improve the physical, mental and emotional health of employees and create a healthier, more productive and stress-free work environment.
Dr. Mishra said that the ‘Y-Break’ protocol is a scientifically designed simple routine, which includes easy yoga poses, pranayama and meditation techniques. It can be practiced at the workplace without any special equipment or infrastructure. The protocol prepared by the Ministry of AYUSH is designed to help employees de-stress, regain energy and increase concentration, as well as improve workplace efficiency, productivity and overall health and well-being.
**Official app and video to be used
The advisory asks to make the Ministry of AYUSH’s ‘Y-Break’ protocol easy for employees and encourage them to practice it as per the prescribed sequence.
The employees will also be encouraged to use the official ‘Y-Break’ mobile application and training videos for guided practice. Reference material including ‘Y-Break’ book and video is available through the ‘Y-Break’ resources of the Ministry of AYUSH/MDNIY.
The advisory also emphasizes on conducting awareness campaigns on the health benefits of regular yoga and motivating employees to include ‘Y-Break’ in their daily routine. Participation of employees in this will be voluntary. Industrial units have been asked to ensure that the five-minute yoga sessions are conducted in a safe manner and do not cause any disruption in their normal functioning. Dr. Mishra said that this initiative has been launched in compliance with the Chief Minister's budget announcement for the year 2026-27. The Industries and Commerce Department has been asked to take this programme to the industrial establishments and industrial associations across Haryana and ensure its time-bound implementation as per the prescribed SOP.
