GRAP3 restrictions imposed due to increasing pollution in DelhiNCR
New Delhi:- Due to the rapid deterioration of air quality in Delhi and adjoining areas, the Air Quality Management Commission has imposed restrictions with immediate effect on Friday. According to officials, Delhi's air quality index, which was 343 on Thursday, increased to 354 by Friday evening.
The Meteorological Department and experts have warned that in the coming days, due to low wind speed and adverse weather conditions, the air quality may cross the 400 mark and reach the 'severe' category. Keeping this fear in mind, the administration has taken this strict step.
With the implementation of GRAP-3, non-essential construction work and vandalism have been completely banned in the entire NCR region. Apart from this, strict action will also be taken against polluting industries and stone crushers. It is worth mentioning that these restrictions were lifted on January 2nd as the air quality improved, but now they have had to be re-imposed due to the worsening situation.
Vehicle smoke, pollution from stubble and frozen smoke due to cold have brought the air quality of Delhi-NCR to dangerous levels, causing people to feel difficulty in breathing.
