Governments announcement on compensation is a cruel joke on farmers Vishnudutt
Fatehabad, December 11: The All India Kisan Sabha has termed the government's announcement regarding compensation for the damage to Kharif crops as meager and a cruel joke played by the government on the farmers. 529,000 farmers in the state registered their losses on the portal, but the government has announced compensation for only 50,000 farmers.
District President of Kisan Sabha, Vishnudutt Sharma, along with farmer leaders Rohtas Dudi, Manish Gorakhpuria, Ajay Machra, and Sandeep Kumar, said that due to excessive rainfall and waterlogging during the Kharif season, hundreds of villages in the state were submerged, and paddy, millet, cotton, sugarcane, guar, and other crops suffered heavy losses. Crops in Fatehabad district also suffered significant damage.
This natural calamity affected approximately 31 lakh acres of standing crops across the state, but the compensation released by the government is only for 1.20 lakh acres. The government's announcement is like a drop in the ocean compared to the extent of the damage. The farmer leaders said that the government has refused to provide compensation to 4.75 lakh farmers out of the total 5.29 lakh farmers who filed claims for losses.
The government is playing a big trick on the farmers, and to avoid paying compensation, objections have been raised, leading to a large number of farmers not receiving compensation. The Kisan Sabha Haryana demands that this assessment be canceled and compensation be given according to the actual losses. Joint protest actions will be decided in consultation with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in this regard.
