Free helmet scheme closed for Punjab foundation takes decision due to nonuse

Patiala:- Indian Head Injury Prevention Foundation**, which took the initiative of distributing free helmets to promote road safety, has decided not to provide free helmets in future due to non-use of helmets in Punjab.
According to information, Maharaja Gaje Singh of Jodhpur (Rajasthan) had established the Indian Head Injury Prevention Foundation after his son Shivraj Singh suffered a serious head injury in a road accident in 2015 and recovered after long treatment. The foundation has been distributing quality helmets free of cost to two-wheeler drivers from economically weaker families in various states of the country with the help of police and social service organizations.
Under the same, 1,000 helmets were sent to the parents of students and 1,000 helmets were sent to students in Patiala as well. Former police officer Gurjap Singh and retired training supervisor of Red Cross Society Kaka Ram Verma distributed helmets to deserving families by organizing events in various schools. On this occasion, awareness was also raised about road safety, traffic rules and the importance of helmets and a resolution was also given to use helmets regularly.
However, people associated with the foundation say that many of the helmets distributed were not used. Due to this, when more helmets were demanded for Punjab, the foundation did not approve it. The foundation believes that people spend a huge amount on two-wheelers and fuel, but do not give enough priority to wearing helmets for their safety.
Social workers said that to reduce road accidents, just distributing helmets is not enough, but it is necessary to create awareness about traffic rules, laws, discipline and social responsibilities among students and citizens from childhood. He said that parents should also prevent minor children from driving vehicles and should consider it their responsibility to follow the rules of road safety. He appealed that every section of the society will have to contribute to make road safety a people's movement, so that deaths and serious injuries in road accidents can be effectively reduced.
