First OCTGuided Rotatripsy Procedure Performed at Park Hospital Patiala
Patiala: Park Hospital, Patiala, has successfully performed its first OCT-guided rotatripsy procedure, marking a significant step forward in the treatment of complex coronary artery disease.
Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Arshdeep Singh Sandhu stated that the procedure was performed on a patient with heavily calcified coronary arteries—a challenging condition that can complicate angioplasty and stent placement. To accurately assess the extent of calcium deposits, the cardiac team utilized Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), an advanced imaging technology that provides detailed, high-resolution visualization from inside the artery.
Based on the OCT findings, the team performed rotatripsy, a novel technique combining rotational atherectomy (rotablation) and intravascular lithotripsy (IVL). Rotablation was used to modify the hard calcium deposits, while IVL shockwave therapy helped fracture the remaining calcium and improve vessel flexibility.
This advanced approach enabled optimal stent placement and expansion, resulting in an excellent procedural outcome. The entire procedure was completed successfully without any complications.
