Farmers should be encouraged to cultivate medicinal and aromatic plants Naib Singh Saini
Chandigarh, March 6:- Haryana Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the authorities should encourage farmers in the state to cultivate medicinal and aromatic plants so that farmers can earn more income in less agricultural land. He also directed to create awareness among farmers to save water by promoting micro-irrigation.
The Chief Minister was releasing the Report of Working Group on Promotion of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Haryana and Report on Working Group on Promotion of Micro Irrigation in Haryana of Haryana Kisan Welfare Authority here today.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also chaired a meeting on pricing policy for Kharif crops (Marketing Session 2026-27) and directed to prepare a proposal in this regard and send it to the Central Government.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Rastogi, Principal Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Saket Kumar, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Mr. Rajnarayan Kaushik, Chief Executive Officer of Haryana Farmers Welfare Authority Dr. Ravinder Singh Chauhan and Additional Chief Executive Officer Mr. Hitesh Kumar Meena along with other officials.
Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that India is among the largest exporters of medicinal herbs in the world and Haryana can also make a significant contribution in this field due to its strategic location and strong agricultural infrastructure. He said that if medicinal and aromatic plants are promoted in the state in a sustainable and planned manner, this sector can create huge economic opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.
He said that the sector of medicinal and aromatic plants is not limited to agriculture only, but it includes many activities like processing, extraction, manufacturing of value added products and marketing. Due to this, this sector can also create new employment opportunities in rural areas and can play an important role in strengthening the local economy.
The Chief Minister directed that research institutes and the private sector should jointly make systematic efforts in this direction and explore the possibilities of making Haryana a major hub for production and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants.
Releasing the report of the Working Group on Promotion of Micro Irrigation in Haryana, Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the authorities should encourage farmers to sow crops that use micro-irrigation. He hoped that this report would encourage the adoption of micro-irrigation systems in the state and promote sustainable agriculture. He directed the authorities to give maximum encouragement to the farmers to cultivate medicinal and aromatic plants and promote micro-irrigation.
