Fans were left with a costly glimpse of Lionel Messi organiser arrested

Kolkata: Chaos erupted at the Salt Lake Stadium here as spectators who had spent huge sums on tickets to watch Argentine football icon Lionel Messi protested over not getting a clear glimpse of the footballer. Satdaru Dutta, the chief organiser of Lionel Messi's Salt Lake Stadium event, was detained on Sunday after allegations of large-scale chaos and serious mismanagement. This information was given by West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar.
Dutta was detained from the Kolkata airport, where he had gone to send Messi and his companions to Hyderabad. The action was taken in connection with the chaos caused by the alleged mismanagement of the event.
"We are looking into whether there was any mismanagement on the part of the administrator, which led to the chaos in the stadium. He has been detained, and the police have now brought the situation under control," said West Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar.
Kumar added that the administrator has given a written assurance that he will refund the price of tickets sold to the disappointed spectators. Notably, Messi, along with long-time strike partner Luis Suarez and Argentina teammate Rodrigo de Paul, arrived at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan at around 11.30 am and was the first to enter the ground. He briefly walked around and waved to the crowd.
However, he was surrounded by IPs, administrators and security personnel throughout his entire circuit, effectively cutting off the view of the spectators from the galleries. Fans claimed that despite waiting since morning, they could not see Messi either directly or properly on the big screens of the stadium.

Mamata Banerjee apologized

I was on my way to the stadium to attend the event with thousands of sports lovers and fans who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite footballer Lionel Messi. I sincerely apologize to Lionel Messi as well as all sports lovers and his fans for this unfortunate incident."
She added, "I am forming an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd) Asim Kumar Ray, in which the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs Department will be members.
