Every state should have a single emergency number Supreme Court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered all states and union territories to fully implement the '112' emergency helpline within three months. The court said that the right to trauma care is also an integral part of a citizen's right to life. Besides, it directed the establishment of a grievance redressal mechanism for 'Good Samaritans'.
A bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and A.S. Chandurkar passed the order while hearing a petition filed by 'Save Life Foundation'. The court observed that delay in medical treatment after an accident reduces the chances of survival of the patient; therefore, it is necessary to have a robust emergency response system. The court directed the states to hold regular review meetings and submit compliance reports.
