End Terrorism First Then Talks on the Sindhu Jal Sandhi India

New Delhi:- India on Friday, July 3, issued a strong response to Pakistan over the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** (Indus Waters Treaty). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated that India's position on the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** remains suspended due to Pakistan's continued support for cross-border terrorism.
During the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "India's position on the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** remains unchanged. The agreement is currently held in abeyance in response to Pakistan's persistent promotion of cross-border terrorism."
He further stated, "Pakistan must credibly and permanently end its support for cross-border terrorism."
India adopted a tougher stance on the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April. Since then, Pakistan has repeatedly criticized India's decision.
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari accused India of using water as a strategic weapon. Responding to the allegation, India said that the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** is a water-sharing agreement and should not be viewed as an instrument of pressure or political leverage.
India has made it clear that discussions on the **Sindhu Jal Sandhi** will not move forward until Pakistan completely ends cross-border terrorism.
Responding to questions on the Teesta River Management Project, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India's development cooperation with Bangladesh is based on mutual agreement and takes all relevant considerations into account. The ministry added that India has already conveyed its position on the Teesta project to Bangladesh and will continue to consider all future developments while taking decisions on the matter.
